Armstrong Sperry is a Newberry Medal award winner. He is an author and an illustrator. Armstrong has spent many years of his life in the South Seas. As a young adult he set sail from Tahiti to Bora Bora in a copra schooner. He spent several months on Bora Bora where he observed the island people. The chief of the Polynesian village where he was visiting showed a courage that Sperry had never seen before. He later tried to communicate this courage to his readers. Some of his other books are One Day With Manu, One Day with Tuktu, an Eskimo Boy, Flying Cloud, and Lost Lagoon.
