History & Purpose

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."                   -Margaret Mead

Middle Tyger Community Center (MTCC) is a non-profit 501C-3 organization located 84 Groce Road in Lyman, South Carolina that brings together state and local agencies to support the Spartanburg County District Five Area and adjoining areas of the county.

In 1997, a Steering Committee of community-minded individuals came together with one goal in mind: to create a place for families. Since its beginning, MTCC has experienced an amazing transformation. What began as a small Center with two main programs has become a fully integrated service delivery facility.

MTCC supports the community with comprehensive programs for adolescent mothers and their babies, a nationally-accredited childcare program, family literacy (including adult education), family counseling, health needs, crisis intervention, and social services (on-site Department of Social Services); and more recently, MTCC served as a transition center for displaced workers from a local industry closing. MTCC is a valuable asset for the community and plays a leading role in improving quality of life for children and families.
